Volunteers Hard at Work: Special
Thanks to Rae Tate who assisted United Way of the Upper Ohio
Valley. She put together 230 Walk-a-thon packets for
Jefferson school. Also, special thank you to Principal,
Nadine Sueeda, and Jefferson students for your continued
support of the United Way.
RSVP thanks Allen Staggers, Manager, External
Affairs, FirstEnergy Corporation for your continued support
of the RSVP After School Adventures Program. Your
contributions of $500 have assisted with needed snacks for
Brooke and Marshall County youth.
AARP Safe Driving honoring Veterans: Thank you, Mel Vorhees, for instructing a full
class of 19 seniors. You also assisted 17 veterans in AARP
Safe Driving instruction at no cost. Helping them to be
better prepared on the roads and assisting them with
MLK Day Event:

Hattie Adams for assisting with Pokeno
activities at the Brooke County Senior Center. A little
about Hattie, she started with RSVP on June 26, 1996 and has
served 34 jobs assisting 18 sites totaling 48,412 hours
showing a monetary value of $768,829 and at least 2,444
clients. Hattieís first service was companionship/outreach
activities assistant at local area health
care facilities such as Wyngate, Valley Haven, Weirton
Geriatric Center and Annís Country Retreat where she served
11,006 hours assisting 150 residents. She then served 65
hours at Weirton United Way assisting with fundraising
activities and mailings. In March of 2000 Hattie started
assisting with Food Service at Follansbee and Weirton Senior
Center serving 319 hours. She also started helping out at
the local Senior Centers of
Brooke County and The Greater Weirton Senior Center serving
36,583 hours with crafts, medical transportation,
fundraising, recreational activities, fun night, blood
pressure, Bingo, flu shots, fundraising, newsletters, health
nutrition, Christmas lap robe project, and advisory
councils. She has assisted with book sales at the Mary H.
Weir Public Library serving 4 hours and 383 hours assisting
with mailings at the Weirton Chamber of Commerce. She has
assisted American Cancer Society, Brooke Hills Park, MDA,
Easter Seals, Salvation Army of Weirton and Follansbee Fire
Department at local fairs and
events with 37 hours of service. She has served 12 hours
assist with blood drives at Brooke County Red Cross and 3
hours assisting with baby blankets at Crittenton Services,
Inc. and mentoring young women with Camp Fire USA. Hattieís
reason for volunteering, ďI love being with people and
helping people. My life has improved, I am happier doing
things for people instead of staying home and being bored.
The people I help donít have to pay for the service. They
have a visitor that jokes and cuts up. Itís my time to come
here and make someone laugh. All the people I help are
special.Ē Hattie has been with RSVP sixteen years and has
truly made a great difference in her community.

on 25 computers. You hard work, expertise and dedication is
