MLK Day of Service

Three volunteers assisted with the RSVP MLK Day Volunteer Symposium held at Brooke High School.  Thank you Jami Packer, BHS, for your invitation to participate.  Margaret Freshwater prepared RSVP volunteer flyers that were handed to 200 community members and Carol Billiard assisted with Volunteer Recruitment, Operation Valentine and Yellow Dot service projects.  There were 275 valentines collected and 35 "Are you Prepared?" instructional flyers distributed.  Good job ladies!

Special thanks to Laura A Cade with Huntington Bank for helping with the MLK Day Literacy Project that instructed 5 community members in “Borrowing Basics” and “Keep it Safe Identity Theft".  Candace Wittig, Hancock County Coordinator, Good Job!

Donations Needed:

The Southern Appalachian Labor School (SALS)  has been asked by  Rev. Jeff Allen, Director of the WV Council of Churches, to collect    ready- made baby formula, diapers, nonperishable food, and distilled water.  The items will be distributed to those in need within the nine county area  impacted  with contaminated water  served by the Elk River intake of the  regional water system operated by WV American Water .

AARP Tax Assistance Schedule: 

Brooke County Senior Center - Tuesday - 9:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. MUST HAVE AN APPOINTMENT. Please call 304.527.3410. Please bring 2012 year tax return and all of 2013 tax information (including 2013 senior citizens tax credit). CALL AFTER JANUARY 15, 2014 for an appointment. RSVP Volunteers will NOT be able to do Real Estate Property or Farm Income Taxes.
