Events RSVP will be partnering with Laughlin Chapel in the Martin Luther King Three Day Event, January 17, thru January 20, 2011.  Will be collecting canned food goods to be donated for Martin Luther King Day Dinner.  Please bring donated canned goods to your local Senior Center at: Weirton, Brooke County, Marshall County, Ohio County.  Volunteer are welcome to assist in preparing/serving meal.

Please assist RSVP by having your volunteer hour sheets signed and the signature of your site supervisor, upon submission to RSVP office. VOLUNTEER'S HOURS WILL  NOT BE AUTHORIZED (CREDITED) UNLESS ALL SIGNATURES ARE PRESENT.  This will assist the RSVP staff in processing time.  RSVP staff may be requesting your signature of prior sheets if not signed.  Thank you for your assistance. 

Thank you for your assistance is helping RSVP staff update your job descriptions, please contact the RSVP office if you are interested in another volunteering service to receive your job description.  All job descriptions must be signed to verify receipt.

RSVP will be contacting sites (stations) to request non-profit status such as 501(C)(3) documentation. Thank you again for your assistance.

RSVP “ASAP” Expansion into Marshall County located at old Stanton School Building in Moundsville WV on 1600 Third Street.  Special thanks to Joyce Howard, Marshall County Senior Center Director and Board of Directors, Barb McConnell RSVP Coordinator, and DHHR assisted volunteers, Dara Pond with grant writing assistance.  Sanford Center Board of Directors, for your assistance.  Great Job!

RSVP "ASAP" Students in Christmas Spirit
Thanks to RSVP Coordinator, Barb McConnell and VISTA Ashley Gregorash for assisting RSVP in participating in its 1st Christmas Parade, Fourteen RSVP ASAP students honored RSVP Seniors with WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS banner. 

Thanks to twenty-two "RSVP ASAP" students for spreading Christmas cheer at Dalessio Manor with your caroling. Volunteer Pat Accettolo for preparing students in song, and assisting with hats, bells and lyrics, "We love you Ms. Pat". Thanks to Dalessio Manor for allowing us to carol and  Ms.Diana and Ms. Jo for assisting in caroling.

Special Thanks to City of Follansbee and Puskarich Accounting for assisting with 42 Christmas gift bags for ASAP students.  Special thank you to Michelle's Dance for donating dance instruction to the RSVP "ASAP" students.

RSVP Honoring our students at ASAP who have continued making craft greeting cards for service personnel in Afghanistan,20 students have sent 120 cards from Halloween thru Christmas.  Great Job!

AARP Tax Preparation coming in February
It's coming that time again. Tax Season.   Brooke County Senior Center - Tuesday - 9:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.  MUST HAVE AN APPOINTMENT. Please call 527-3410.   Greater Weirton Senior Center - Monday thru Friday 9:30 to 3:30 p.m. Walk-in’s are welcome no appointment necessary.  Please bring 2010 paid personal property tax receipts with prior year tax information.

Thanks to our Fundraising Volunteers: Congratulations Mr. Edward Bowman for winning the Quilt Raffle.  Special Thanks to Margaret Freshwater for the beautiful quilt that raised $339 for RSVP and Mary Schwertfeger and Sally Walters for promoting quilt and 50/50 tickets at Christmas Party that raised $97, and RSVP Advisory Council for selling tickets within the community.

Thanks Senior Corps Director Doris Hamman for hosting the WVSCDA Meeting and Christmas Party, we enjoyed your hospitality and getting to know all the directors and coordinators who were present.  Pictured below is Doris on the left and her coordinator Betty Hagi to her right. 
 

Special Thanks to all volunteers who participated in the RSVP Christmas Project.  207 lap robes, 29 shawls and 3 totes were given to nine area adult care facilities and shelters.

Thanks to Margaret Freshwater Committee Chair and RSVP Christmas Party Committee (Nancy Scott, Clara Call, Hazel Powell, Ron Penrod, John Grimm, Ruth Zirkle, Norma Gosney, Florence Kahley and RSVP Staff) for planning the 5th Annual Christmas Party that hosted 150 volunteers, we had a wonderful time, thanks to your hard work and dedication.  RSVP collected 521 canned food items and 69 toys that will be distributed to the Community Bread Basket, Weirton Christian Center After School Program and RSVP “ASAP” program. Look for Barbra McConnell to be on Comcast Newsmakers in January.  Comcast Newsmakers provides free forum for non-profit organizations to present events and issues important to the Ohio Valley.  Comast Newsmakers can be seen at :25 and :55 minutes past the hour on CNN Headline News, Channel 33.  Thank You COMCAST NEWSMAKERS! 

Look for RSVP Advisory Council to hold open meeting on March 21st, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ohio County Senior Center.  Thank you Ohio County for assisting our Program in providing space. All RSVP volunteers welcome.

Special Thank You to 98 RSVP volunteers who participated in the Martin Luther King Day event, by completing your thank you card given at the RSVP 2010 Christmas Party, with special personal message of appreciation that will be given to service personnel in Afghanistan.  Cards will be mail in honor of MLK Day.
