Community Garden Ready for Picking: Some vegetables have been picked.  An estimated seven bushel of green beans and still more to pick, 100 cucumbers, 20 summer squash and 50 winter squash (acorn, butternut, etc.), 50 peppers (yellow/jalapeno), and 3 watermelons. Vegetables ready for picking are, 1,600 tomatoes (some dinner plate size), 20 cantaloupes, 5+ pumpkins, beets, herbs, radishes, carrots and sunflowers. The community garden has served an estimated 300 community members.

Special Thanks Senator Jack Yost and Senator Rocky Fitzsimmons for the Governor’s Community Participation Grant Program award in the amount of $3,000 and to the City of Follansbee through which the grant was submitted.

New team members, Pauline Boring, RSVP Coordinator, April Gould, VISTA RSVP ASAP, and RSVP Director, Angela Kocher, attended Faces of Leadership conference held in Charleston August 6-8, 2013.  Senior Corps pre-conference covered: Best Practices, Challenges and Solutions for Volunteer Recruitment, experience, retention and developing volunteer stations.

The 2013 West Virginia Governor’s Service Awards were presented.  Some nominees:  Brittaney Stapleton, Brooke, Amy Hutchinson, Ohio, Carrie McKenzie, Ohio, Edwin Bowman, Hancock, William Lantz, Brooke, Kathy Furbee, Brooke, Youth Service Systems, Ohio, and Award Recipient receiving Lifetime Achievement was Delbert “Duke” Horstemeyer, Hancock, nominated by RSVP’S site supervisor, Mr. Richard Rekowski.

RSVP staff attended the 2013 Senior Corps Virtual Conference: Linking Performance Measures to Program Impact! This year they had over 1,400 conference attendees!
